Workshop: Day 1

We start at 7:30 a.m. on day 1 for check in on Tuesday morning at "The Herg" (that's the room name) in Syracuse University's Newhouse III building . We finish on Saturday at 5 p.m. The rest of the schedule will have to remain a mystery until then, as we apply a final coat of paint on it. :).

Camera Gear

We have generous sponsors that include Nikon and Canon, they supply all the camera gear you could ever want, but we recommend you bring the gear that you'd use after the workshop. So that we can help you with it, because that's the gear you'll use to make multimedia goodness in the future.

Gear to Bring

Bring with you: Headphones (Ideally the over-the-ear headphones. These are required for shooting and editing -- the room can get especially noisy with 70+ people jamming on projects during production time.) A Tripod or Monopod (An important tool for steady shooting)External hard drive, ideally that uses Firewire.

Editing Software

We will be supplying the software and computers that you will use for the workshop. in 2012 we will be using Final Cut Pro X, you don't need to know how to use teh software prior to the workshop, as that we will be teaching the software at the event.

Hotel Details

For those of you NOT staying at the Sheraton, we'll need to give you info on parking at the University, which costs $4 a day. Those staying at the Sheraton, parking is included, so don't worry about it. Also there are two shooting days, all of stories are off campus and will require a car to get to. If you rent a car, you'll only need it for 2 days.

Richard Koci Hernandez

Richard Koci Hernandez teaches multimedia storytelling to reporters at UC Berkeley, he advocates using the iPhone as a tool for multimedia journalism. “Wouldn't it be great if we put one device in the hands of every photojournalist and in it the potential and power to do anything with their images?” said Hernandez.
